August 19, 2022 Transfiguration

The Holy Day of the Transfiguration of Our Lord on Mount Tabor was celebrated at St. Vladimir U.O. Cathedral with a Divine Liturgy and blessing of fruit.  Although this Holy Day was a Friday, the clergy was overjoyed at having over 80 faithful in attendance.

The parish choir beautifully sang the responses and hymns under the direction of substitute choir director Ryan Sima.  There were many children in attendance including two young Altar Servers. For the blessing of fruit, the children gathered around the clergy to participate and observe.

The meaning of this major Feast is found in the Gospel of St. Matthew, chapter 17 Jesus took three of his disciples, Peter, James, and John to Mount Tabor where He was transfigured and appeared with Elijah and Moses.

The blessing of fruit is a part of this celebration and a sign of gratitude to Almighty God for the gift of a good harvest. Many of the faithful brought baskets of fruit to be blessed. The blessing took place at the end of the liturgy along with blessing of the faithful.
