Celebration of Holy Theophany

On Thursday, January 19, our parish celebrated the Feast of the Theophany (Baptism of Jesus in the River Jordan). A bilingual Divine Liturgy was celebrated by Fr. John, Fr. Michael, Fr. Roman Yatskiw (priest at St. Nicholas Ukrainian Orthodox Church in Monessen, PA), and protodeacon Ihor.

У четвер, 19 січня, наша парафія відзначала свято Богоявлення (Хрещення Ісуса в річці Йордан). Двомовну Божественну Літургію відслужив о. Іван, о. Михайло, о. Роман Яцків (священик парафії Української Православної Церкви св. Миколая в Монессені, Пенсильванія) та протодиякон Ігор.

Following of the liturgy, the Great Blessing of Water took place. The Blessing not only remembers the event of Our Lord's baptism and the revelation of the Holy Trinity but also expresses Orthodoxy's belief that creation is sanctified through Christ. As always, the faithful were able to take some of the newly blessed water home.

Після літургії було звершено Велике Освячення Води. Благословення не тільки згадує подію Хрещення Господа і об’явлення Пресвятої Трійці, але й виражає віру Православ’я в те, що творіння освячено Христом. Як завжди, освячену воду вірні мали змогу взяти додому.

"It came to pass in those days that Jesus came from Nazareth of Galilee, and was baptized by John in the Jordan. And immediately, coming up from the water, He saw the heavens parting and the Spirit descending upon Him like a dove. Then a voice came from heaven, 'You are My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.' " (Mark 1:9-11)

"І сталось у ті дні, прийшов Ісус із Назарета галилейського і хрестився від Іоана в Йордані. І коли виходив з води, зараз же побачив Іоан небеса, що розкривалися, і Духа, Який, мов голуб, сходив на Нього. І голос був з небес: Ти Син Мій Улюблений, в Якому Моє благовоління. (Марк 1:9-11)
