Many of you have had the pleasure of seeing Easton at the 1st English service, sitting in the back pew, bouncing around with excitement, and filling the air with his joyful noises. It’s hard not to smile when Easton is near — his energy, enthusiasm, and contagious laugh brighten any room. He is a sweet, spirited 7-year-old with a heart full of love, and we are so blessed to have him as part of our church family. However, while Easton brings joy to all of us, his life presents challenges that are difficult for him to navigate alone. Diagnosed with severe autism at age three, Easton faces many obstacles in daily life. He is nonverbal, has difficulty managing social and emotional situations, and often experiences overwhelming frustration. In these moments, Easton can engage in self-harming behaviors, like punching himself or head-butting the floor or walls. These intense reactions are difficult to manage and prevent, and as Easton grows, so do the challenges.

As Easton gets older, his safety and emotional well-being are growing concerns. For example, he sometimes has little awareness of his surroundings, which can make him a flight risk. It’s not uncommon for Easton to run into a busy parking lot or crowded area without thinking twice, putting himself at serious risk. As he becomes faster and stronger, it will become even harder to keep him safe in these situations. We believe a service dog could make a significant difference in Easton’s life. A trained service dog would help in two important ways: safety and emotional support.

A service dog could help keep Easton safe by staying close to him in public spaces, preventing him from running off into potentially dangerous situations. The dog could also provide a tether or gentle guidance, helping him navigate his environment in a safer, more controlled way. - **Emotional Support:** The service dog could also help de-escalate Easton’s self-harming behaviors. Trained to recognize when he’s feeling overwhelmed, the dog could offer comfort through physical touch or calming pressure, helping to soothe his frustrations and redirect his energy.

MEET EASTON: A sweet, fun-loving 7-year-old who enjoys climbing, swimming, jumping from high heights (much to the horror of his parents!), and spinning on his swing at speeds that would make an astronaut ill! Anyone who spends time with Easton usually says the same thing: "That laugh!" Easton has the most contagious smile and infectious laugh that brightens the whole room. Unfortunately, Easton was diagnosed at the age of 3 with severe Autism. Not only is he nonverbal with difficulty navigating social and emotional situations, but he also exhibits self-harm behaviors in response to frustration. Easton's intense responses range from punching himself in the head, back and chest to head-butting the floor or wall as hard as he can. Easton is also not aware of his surroundings; he can easily run into a busy parking lot or crowded public space without second thought. As he gets older, these behaviors will become harder to prevent, and helping him manage will be difficult. He will be able to run faster and quicker, causing major concern for his safety. We feel a service dog could vastly improve Easton's quality of life. Our goal is to give him a companion that will help address these safety issues while he is out in the community, as well as recognize and aid in calming his self-harming behaviors. Easton is such a great kid, and his family loves him so much! We would love to be able to give him as much aid and as many tools as possible for him to be successful in this life.
